Welcome to the website of the Danish Embassy in Cotonou.

The website is meant to give a brief picture of the development cooperation between Denmark and Benin as well as to provide information for travellers, tourists and others on Benin in general.

Through the various links to the website of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Danish institutions this website also serves as a portal for all seeking information on Denmark.

A comprehensive development cooperation programme is the cornerstone in the relations between Denmark and Benin. Benin became a focus country for Danish development assistance in 1992. Over the last years the development cooperation has expanded and includes areas as education, rural transport and agriculture, water and sanitation and governance and human rights.

The overall aim of the Danish development assistance is to contribute to poverty reduction through sustainable and socially balanced economic growth in the partner countries. In Benin the development cooperation programme is designed within the framework of Benin´s National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty. In addition Denmark supports a range of activities to promote democracy, good governance at central and local level as well as civil society.
